Arlington Heights is a northwest Chicago suburb located about 25 miles from downtown. It’s an easily commutable location perfect for those who want to live outside of the city but also want to have easy access to it.
This is one of the largest neighborhoods in the state in terms of population, but the members of the community are close. A wide range of community events are held throughout the year in Arlington Heights, and it’s a great place for young professionals to settle down or start a family.
Compared to Illinois’ median cost of living, the cost of Arlington Heights is a bit higher. Home prices are slightly higher than average, with many of them selling at prices in the $300-$400,000 range. Some smaller properties (condos, townhouses, etc.) sell for less than this, in the mid-high $200,000 price range.
Most residents in Arlington Heights have advanced degrees. It’s considered a premier suburb and is attractive to those who value good school districts, even if access to them means paying a higher than average price for your home and paying more in property taxes.
Arlington Heights is a very commuter-friendly city. Many people who live here travel by car, thanks to the neighborhood’s easy access to Illinois Route 53 and I-90. It doesn’t take long to hop in the car and drive downtown, to Chicago O’Hare Airport, or to one of the surrounding suburbs.
Arlington Heights is a good option for those who favor public transportation, too. It has one Metra stop for the North Central train line and two Metra stops for the Union Pacific line.
Arlington Heights School District 25 serves the Arlington Heights neighborhood. It’s home to seven elementary schools, two middle schools, and one primary high school: John Hersey High School.
Many students who live in Arlington Heights are districted to other nearby high schools, including Wheeling, Rolling Meadows, and Buffalo Grove. There are also many private education offerings for primary through high school students.
As far as post-high school education, ITT Technical Institute and Empire Beauty School are located in Arlington Heights. The neighborhood is close to several larger colleges, including Elmhurst and Harper College.
One of the Arlington Heights’ most popular attractions is the Arlington Park Race Track. Every year, the race track hosts the Mane Event, which kicks off Million Week and draws tons of residents and visitors to the area.
In addition to the race track, residents of Arlington Heights can also enjoy one of the largest and most well-respected libraries in Illinois: Arlington Heights Memorial Library. Arlington Heights’ Park District was also a recent finalist for a National Gold Medal Award.
