Incorporated in 1965, Bolingbrook is one of Chicago’s newer suburbs. Despite its relative newness, this is a thriving area that has quickly become one of the largest neighborhoods in the southwest portion of Chicago.
Bolingbrook features a wide array of houses, from modern midcentury dwellings to new constructions located along the perimeter. The neighborhood is part of Will County and is considered to be relatively modest in terms of cost, making it an affordable option for those who are looking to relocate.
The cost of living in Bolingbrook is lower than that of several other nearby neighborhoods, including those located in DuPage County. Home values are lower than average in Bolingbrook, but the sales taxes are a bit higher than neighboring municipalities. This drives up the overall cost of living a bit, but it’s still not outrageous and makes the area appealing to residents and home buyers.
The median home value in Bolingbrook is $270,109, and nearly 80 percent of the neighborhood’s residents are homeowners. The majority of houses in the area are single-family homes, but a small percentage are townhomes as well.
A significant portion of Bolingbrook is bordered by I-55 on the south side and I-355 on the east side. It’s an attractive suburb for commuters and is easy to get in and out of thanks to its network of well-designed and well-maintained municipal roads.
Bolingbrook is located close to rail stations in the nearby Naperville and Lisle, so residents have relatively easy access to BNSF Metra rail lines that end at Union Station in Chicago.
As an added bonus, Bolingbrook is closer to the O’Hare and Midway airports than many other Chicago neighborhoods, too. It’s about 23 miles away from Midway and 30 miles from O’Hare.
Several of the school districts in neighboring cities serve the residents of Bolingbrook, as well as students living in other, nearby locations.
There are 13 different elementary schools, seven middle schools, and eight high schools that the neighborhood’s children can attend. There are also private options, including St. Dominic School, which serves students from pre-K to eighth grade, and Furqaan Academy.
The majority of schools that Bolingbrook residents attend have received fair-to-high scores from GreatSchools. There are plenty of high-quality academic options available to parents who want their children to have the best education possible.
The residents of Bolingbrook are rarely bored. The neighborhood is full of incredible parks, as well as a public golf course and aquatic park that’s perfect for the hot summer days. The Hidden Oaks Conservation Area also provides lots of opportunities to enjoy all that nature has to offer.
With so many commercial developments located throughout Bolingbrook, there are plenty of options for restaurants, cinemas, and retailers. The Promenade Bolingbrook also features additional shopping, dining, and entertainment options.
Every summer, the neighborhood hosts a variety of public events, including a 4th of July Extravaganza and the Taste of Bolingbrook, which attracts visitors from all around.
