Glenview is another northwest suburb of Chicago, located in Cook County, just 15 miles away from the Chicago Loop. This is a popular area for both city commuters and suburban workers alike, with easy access to transportation, great schools, and plenty of quality housing options.
Originally, Glenview was a historic farming community. It’s gone through major transformations over the last several years, though, and has grown a lot thanks to suburban expansion.
The cost of living in Glenview is a bit higher than some other Chicago suburbs. The average home value is a little over $500,000, and the majority of the neighborhood’s residents are homeowners.
With higher-than-average prices, this area appeals primarily to high-income individuals, as well as those who are willing to spend a bit more on housing in order to have access to a well-maintained living area and quality schools.
Most of the homes in Glenview are moderate-to-large, single-family homes, although a small percentage of them are townhomes and other types of dwellings. There are plenty of options in terms of size and style, but most properties are going to be more expensive than what other neighborhoods have to offer.
There are plenty of transportation options that connect Glenview with downtown Chicago and neighboring suburbs. Residents can easily hop onto I-94 when they need to head east and I-294 when they need to head west.
As for public transportation, the Metra Milwaukee North Line has two stations that service the Glenview area. It only takes about 30 minutes to travel downtown. Amtrak trains also run between Milwaukee and the Union Station in Chicago. There are six daily stops at the downtown station in Glenview.
There are nine different school districts that service the large Glenview area. These districts are home to a variety of elementary, middle, and high schools. Residents also have access to plenty of private schools for preschool and kindergarten through eighth-grade students.
The majority of schools in Glenview range from above-average to excellent. There are plenty of great options for students to enjoy quality education.
As for post-secondary education, Glenview city center is a mere eight miles away from Northwestern University. Oakton Community College, Northeastern Illinois University, and North Park University are close as well.
Glenview hosts a number of fun events every year, including the Grove Folk Fest and the Summer Fest. The Glenview Park District puts on a wide range of art, dance, fitness, and theater programs, too.
There are lots of opportunities for outdoor activities in Glenview as well. It’s home to tons of wildlife preserves and nature preserves, including The Grove, which sits on 145 acres of prairie grove land and offers outdoor history and nature museums, as well as nature trails.
In downtown Glenview, residents have access to tons of options for shopping and dining, both from small, local businesses and larger chains. Some of the best places to visit are the Glen Town Center and Patriot Marketplace.
